Replace the NO project

Rikssalen, Uppsala Castle 2022

In a troubled world with wars, pandemics, authoritarian leaders and dark forces etc., I remade the interactive installation Replace the NO in connection with SU-EN Butoh Company’s 30th anniversary celebration.

I was interested in whether the current situation would affect what people wrote on the notes, compared to 2016. And – there was a greater anxiety and doubt, though hope still sprouted between the words.

The audience in the Rikssalen consisted mainly of those interested in culture and with an open mind. I would like to make this interactive installation in an open place where all political orientations are represented. Where also the feelings of hatred and fear that are expressed on the internet, for example, can be written on the notes.

Replace the NO – Description/ instructions:
Write what you think about the world right now. Replace a NO note with what you have written and place the NO note on the floor.

Some information about the Rikssalen for my foreign visitors
The Rikssalen at Uppsala Castle is a historical hall. Here King Karl IX held his coronation dinner in the castle’s then new state hall in 1607, and also his son, King Gustav II Adolf, in 1617. Queen Kristina abdicated here on June 6, 1654.

The hall is now used for parties, but very old tapestries hang on the walls and you can really feel the wings of history.
